Double covered is a special technical yarn which can be found in a variety of clothes and fabrics. It helps them feel different and be of long duration. Yarn is created by twisting fibers together. Combining different types of fibers makes composites stronger and more durable. Double covered yarn is made by winding two yarns around a centralized core. So today we take a closer look at just what is, how it’s made and why it’s so crucial for so many different projects.
Double covered yarn is made up of two layers of yarn that are wrapped around a core. The innermost layer (closest to the core) gives the yarn its strength and stability. The outer layer makes the yarn look good changing the aesthetic finish. It is a very specialized type of yarn that can be found in various things in our daily lives from clothing and furniture to home décor.
Here are several reasons why double covered yarn is important. Well, firstly, because it has two layers, it’s significantly stronger than a yarn that has one. This robustness makes it well-suited for garments that experience a high level of wear and tear, such as socks, sportswear, and active wear.
Double layered yarn also boasts increased stretch and recovery. This allows the fabric produced from this yarn to stretch and be molded into different shapes but have the ability to return to its initial state. This is vital for products such as sportswear and active wear that need to move with the body during wear.

Stretchy: Double covered yarn also has better stretch and recovery than most other yarns, making it great for garments that require movement and shape. You can still wear these yarns without a hint of restriction due to the comfort and flexibility this provides to the garment.

Double covered yarn, which is made using special machines and exacting techniques, is not simple to manufacture. The inner core of the yarn is twisted and wound on a spool called a bobbin. This core can be made from various materials such as nylon, polyester, or cotton, based on what is required to bring together the end product.

Then, the two outer yarn layers are knitted separately. They are coated with a special coating to ensure they will be harder and more resistant to wear and tear. In the next step, two layers on the outside are wrapped around the core, using a machine. What this machine does is ensure that all things are even and tight, which leads to strong and aesthetically pleasing yarn.
